DESCRIPTION:Regular meeting for all who wish to live more sustainably and contribute practically to reducing climate change and improving their local environment. \nWe will be taking action on the projects the group voted to take forward in the summer including: \n\nBuilding new cycle routes and footpaths;\nPlanting more trees within public spaces. i.e. The Rec;\nSetting up a recycling scheme to recycle items that can’t go into green bins;\nLobbying for new-build houses to be more sustainable.  The government is currently reviewing this so it’s a good chance to register your views.\n\nThere will also be a talk on other indicators of sustainability (i.e. social and economic) we could look at in Harwell. \nEveryone is welcome so do come along and join in.

SUMMARY:Harwell Parish History Group - Seeing Suffragists  and Suffragettes: propaganda and women’s suffrage 1860 – 1928
DESCRIPTION:A talk by Jane M. Card on 19th September 2018 at 7.30pm in the Cherry Hall. \nBoth the (law-abiding) Suffragists and the (militant) Suffragettes used expert visual propaganda.  At a time when postcards\, posters and banners were very popular\, they used all these – together with photographs and parades – not only to put over arguments for votes for women\, but also to fight the negative images used by their opponents. \nEach group had its own artists’ workshop to produce material.  The Suffragettes\, indeed\, had a dress code and\, in effect\, a “corporate brand”. \nThis talk will explore the images used by those who supported women’s suffrage – and those who opposed it. \nTickets are £3 and available on the door.
