DESCRIPTION:A black Philadelphia police detective is mistakenly suspected of a local murder while passing through a racially hostile Mississippi town and after being cleared\, is reluctantly asked by the police chief to investigate the case.  Starring Sidney Poitier\, Rod Steiger and Warren Oates. \nIn the Heat of the Night is widely considered one of the most important American films of the 1960s.  At the 40th Academy Awards held in April 1968\, the film was nominated for seven Oscars\, winning five\, including Best Picture\, Best Adapted Screenplay\, and Best Actor for Rod Steiger.
